I mostly like to make drums, but I've dabbled in a few other instruments. Here's an electric guitar I built one afternoon. It has a cable attached to it that goes straight to the pickup so it's always at full volume.

Shellacking
Recent depressing political events have given shellacking a bad name. But as a wood finishing I think it can't be beaten.
Shellac allows wood to resonate more naturally than polyurethane or nitrocellulose which is why it is used on high-end classical guitars.

Badge Making
Hmm. It's frustrating, a lot of parts have been delayed due to weather so I can't finish my current drum projects. For now I'm going to make a badge for the single-ply maple.
This takes a while. Good thing I'm not in this for the money.
There it is. Perhaps I'll try the heads on it while I'm waiting for the snare mechanisms.

Cymbal for Sale
Since I got my new Crash-Ride I haven't been using my second crash and she's been feeling neglected. She's a beautiful Zildjian K Custom Dark Crash. I've decided to find a new home for her where she will get the attention she deserves. You can bid on her on Ebay here.

Steam bent shell continued
Getting a little slowed down by the weather. Looks like I'll be taking the dog sled to the hardware store for some bolts and washers and things.

Brass Shell Snare
This is a new experiment. I'm trying out one of these hammered bass shells I found online. I'll drill it today and use some old lugs to see how it sounds.

Charlie Watts' Drums
Here's a full kit that I built from Keller Vintage Maple Shells. They're six ply maple and poplar with reinforcement rings.

Electronic Drum
I mostly make acoustic drums, but I converted some old junky drums into electronic drums so I can practice without disturbing the neighbors so much. This one uses an old snare shell I built but wasn't satisfied with, a ddrum trigger and Hart Dynamics mesh head.
Welcome!
Hello, I'm Sticking-in-Hair. I make high quality drums, among other things. I've received so many compliments on the sound and look of various drums I've made I decided go public and perhaps even sell a few. This is a Vintage Maple Tom. I'm working on a brass shell snare and a single-ply steam bent snare. More posts to come once I figure out how to do this blogging thing!
